Our principles
WhatLabs organises public-interest information about education, careers and opportunity, and makes it useful to people and, increasingly, to AI systems. We take the responsibility that comes with that seriously.
How we handle data
- We build primarily on published and official open datasets, and are transparent about our sources.
- We practise data minimisation and do not publish pupil-level or individual personal data through our public school and institution profiles.
- Our scores, bands and estimates are clearly framed as directional indicators derived from a stated methodology, not statements of fact, and are not advice.
- We provide a route for institutions and individuals to query, correct or respond to information about them.
How we work with AI
- We make our information accessible to search and AI systems so that people get accurate, well-sourced answers about education and opportunity.
- We respect robots directives and provide mechanisms for organisations to control how their information is used, including opting out of AI-training use where they wish.
- We attribute sources and design our data to be cited, not misrepresented.
